Ja Morant’s New Shot Could Change Everything for Portland

The Portland Trail Blazers did not acquire Ja Morant to stand in a corner and wait for the ball. They brought him to Portland because his speed, aggression and ability to get into the paint can change a game in a few possessions. However, Morant getting more catch-and-shoot opportunities in training camp could become one of the most important developments of the entire season.

Morant has built his reputation as a guard who needs the ball. He attacks the rim with rare explosiveness, finds teammates after collapsing the defense and creates energy that can wake up an entire building. That version of Morant should remain a major part of Portland's offense, but it cannot be the only version the Trail Blazers ask defenses to prepare for.
