Three Jacksonville-area athletes are among the listed competitors for the USA Track & Field Toyota Outdoor Championships, scheduled through July 26 at Icahn Stadium in New York.

Former Episcopal High School (now Episcopal School of Jacksonville) athlete Garrett Scantling competes in the men's decathlon, as the Olympian continues his comeback bid in the 10-event sport. Scantling, also a football standout, was the Times-Union's All-First Coast athlete of the year in 2011.

Scantling narrowly missed out on the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and finished fourth at the 2021 edition in Tokyo, fewer than 100 points from the podium. He missed the 2024 Games due to a suspension after incurring three instances in which he was not available for random drug tests, known in athletics as a whereabouts failure.

Former Nease High School runner Rheinhardt Harrison, the first Northeast Florida high schooler ever to break the four-minute mile, is scheduled to race in the men's 1,500. Harrison, a three-time All-First Coast runner of the year, most recently raced in college at Northern Arizona after his transfer from Oregon.

In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, former Fletcher High School runner Kayley DeLay is scheduled to race in a 23-runner field. She has twice participated in U.S. Olympic Trials at the distance.

DeLay is also a qualifier in Sunday's 5,000 meters, where her season best is a 15:19 from June 13. She won All-First Coast girls cross country runner of the year in 2014 and 2015, and competed in college at Yale and Washington.
