The State Security Division of Berlin Police is investigating an anti-Semitic incident in the centre of the German capital, a spokesman confirmed on Thursday.

Rabbi Shlomo Afanasev, a council member of the Kahal Adass Jisroel (Congregation of Israel) Jewish community, shared a video of the incident on the platform X on Tuesday.

The video shows a young man making the Nazi salute in the street.

"In Berlin, a leading member of my Jewish community, Kahal Adass Jisroel, was threatened with death whilst on his way to the synagogue," Afanasev wrote in the post.

The suspect and his companion also allegedly hurled anti-Semitic abuse at the victim.

A photo also posted by Afanasev showed the suspect sitting in a police car, with a police officer standing beside him. "The police arrested one of the suspects," the post stated.

A police spokesman said that they were aware of the incident, but added: "As this is an ongoing investigation, the Berlin police cannot provide any further information."

The Israeli embassy reposted the images.

"Something has changed in Germany," it stated on X. "Young Muslim men are threatening a Jew with death on his way to the synagogue."

"It is society's responsibility to ensure that such people feel ashamed again and are not proud of their actions," the post continued.
