Jonas Vingegaard poised for historic Giro d'Italia triumph
DPASat, May 30, 2026·1 min readJonas Vingegaard all but sealed his Giro d’Italia victory with a brilliant fifth stage win as he maintained his dominance on the penultimate day of the race.
The 29-year-old Dane is set to notch his fourth Grand Tour win following his Tour de France successes in 2022 and 2023 and last year’s Vuelta a Espana triumph, extending his overnight lead in the general classification to five minutes and 22 seconds.

He said in his post-race interview: “It’s been an amazing day. To win five stages and have a solid lead going into tomorrow is special for me.”
The Visma-Lease a Bike rider made his move on the final climb with 10.5km of stage 20 – a 200km-route from Gemona del Friuli to Piancavallo – to go.
No rival was able to respond as he finished the stage ahead of second-placed Austria’s Felix Gall and Australian Jai Hindley, his closest challengers in the overall standings.
