Big changes are coming to the Liverpool midfield this summer.

The likes of Adam Wharton and Alex Scott have been linked - with Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola said to be lining up alterations.

The midfield area was a source of problems for Arne Slot last season with Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch far beneath their 2024/25 Premier League title-winning best form.

But any new arrivals would mean a huge knock-on effect for the players already at the club. Mac Allister has been suggested as a possible outgoing - alongside Wataru Endo - but the most immediate uncertainty surrounds Curtis Jones.

Inter back at the negotiating table for Curtis Jones

The 25-year-old playmaker was a target for Tottenham and Inter Milan in the winter transfer window. Ultimately no deal could be done for the homegrown performer - whose contract only extends to 2027.

With no sign of a renewal on the horizon the summer transfer window will be Liverpool’s final opportunity to cash in before his value begins to plunge.

Inter are back at the negotiating table for the England international - who is believed to be receptive to a move.

Talks have been ongoing between Hughes and his Italian counterpart Piero Ausilo - but up to now there has been no satisfactory conclusion.

Liverpool are thought to be holding out for around €30m to sell Jones while Inter’s bids have so far come in under that amount.

Inter still €10m away from Liverpool's valuation

A report in Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Milanese giants are pressing on with plans to sign Jones - but a gap of €10m currently exists between the sides.

“There's still a significant gap between Inter's offer and the Reds' demand, which would need to be bridged by raising the Nerazzurri's investment by around ten million,” the report reads.

“What is certain, however, is that the Inter management is looking favorably on the move.”

Deal could be done at €25m

With Liverpool said to be requiring €30m before doing business and Inter offering €10m less than that there is the potential of the teams meeting halfway for Jones.

That means the Nerazzurri would be getting a top player for only €25m - a fraction of his true worth if his contract were longer.

Jones does not look certain of a first-team place under Andoni Iraola and with no renewal on the horizon it is certainly time to cash in.

The Scouser is a two-time Premier League title winner but never convinced Arne Slot of his merits as a midfield starter.

Towards the end of the 2025/26 season he got in the side at right-back and Inter could offer him the platform he needs to showcase his creative talents.
