LA Icon Challenges Ball Brothers to 3×3 Basketball Match

It’s been a decade since the Ball brothers led Chino Hills High School to an undefeated 35-0 record and a CIF Open Division state championship during the 2015-16 season.

But now, LaMelo Ball, Lonzo Ball and LiAngelo Ball have a chance to take the court together for the first time since that championship season at the BIG3 All-Star Game in August.

BIG3 co-founder and Los Angeles icon Ice Cube challenged the brothers to compete against the league’s All-Stars in a 3-on-3 matchup during All-Star weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“This summer, we got a challenge. We got a challenge to the Ball brothers. Yeah, we want all three of y’all in Charlotte for our championship game,” Ice Cube said in a video. “We talking August 22, Charlotte, we challenge the Ball brothers, 3-on-3, Big3-style against our All-Stars. Let’s see what’s up, man. I’ll see you in Charlotte, if you want some of this.”

Will the Ball Brothers Be Available to Compete?

Lonzo quickly responded to Ice Cube’s challenge on X a few hours later. He asked for a role in Ice Cube’s iconic Last Friday movie, which is set to begin filming a fourth and final installment of the comedy franchise later this year.

Ice Cube said if the Ball brothers win the 3-on-3 matchup, they can be featured in the upcoming film.

Lonzo is currently a free agent but has not played in an NBA game since Feb. 1. The Cleveland Cavaliers traded him to the Utah Jazz after 35 games but he was waived before ever playing for the Jazz. Meanwhile, LiAngelo is pursuing a music career and last played professionally with the NBA G League’s Greensboro Swarm from 2021-23.

LaMelo is least likely to be available to compete in the Big3 3-on-3 challenge.

He was recently traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves after spending the first six seasons of his career with the Charlotte Hornets. Therefore, he has a lot of fans in Charlotte and would be a headliner for the event if he is available to compete.

However, LaMelo’s availability will depend on what the Timberwolves allow.
