Lionel Messi leads Argentina World Cup roster
Lionel Messi is going to a sixth World Cup.
The Argentina legend was included on Argentina's 26-man roster for the 2026 World Cup, which was released on Thursday, May 28.
The 38-year-old led his country to the World Cup title in 2022, cementing his legacy as an all-time great while winning the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.

Now playing in MLS with Inter Miami, Messi overcame a recent injury scare to make the squad for Argentina's title defense in North America.
Messi has been coy about his World Cup status, refusing to fully commit despite most observers assuming he would be at the tournament if he was healthy.
Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has allowed Messi to take his time deciding, but has also expressed his desire to bring the longtime Barcelona star to the tournament this summer.

Already, Messi has played in more World Cup matches than any other player in history; his 26 games edging out Germany's Lothar Matthäus.
Argentina kicks off the World Cup against Algeria on June 16. La Albiceleste then face Austria (June 22) and Jordan (June 27) to close out Group J.
