Japanese attacking midfielder Mao Itamura has today signed for Liverpool from Feyenoord, pending visa and clearance.

The teenager is a promising attacking talent, and was named in last season’s Women’s Eredivisie Player of the Year in 2025-26. She finished the season with eight goals and six assists in a season that saw Feyenoord qualify for Europe for their first ever time.

The Japanese youth international told Liverpoolfc.com of her excitement on coming to such a big club playing in the WSL:

“It’s a league and club that was one of my goals. So, I’m happy to be here. When I started playing soccer, one of my goals was to become a professional footballer. When I reached that goal, I wanted to play for my favorite team. I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play in Liverpool, a big club.”

Asked what Liverpool fans should look forward to in her game, she said she hopes to impress with her skill on the ball:

“My strength is dribbling and going all the way to the line. I want to show everyone my dribbling skills. Of course, I want to make the fans excited with my skills. I also want to contribute to the team with my strengths, goals and assists.”
