LSU baseball picked up another commitment out of the transfer portal. According to a post to his social media account on Friday, outfielder Angel Laya will play for the Tigers in 2027 after one year with Oregon.

Laya earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman team and multiple Freshman All-American honors. He started in all but two games for the Ducks, holding a crucial role in the outfield and batting order.

Per 64Analytics, Laya is the No. 9-ranked player in the transfer portal. Laya is a massive get for the Tigers.

As a consistent top-half hitter, Laya batted .296 with a .538 slugging percentage and a .934 OPS. He finished 2026 with 66 hits, 49 runs, 47 RBI and 14 home runs.

Laya is the second portal pickup of the week for head coach Jay Johnson, following right-handed pitcher Kaden Smith from South Florida. LSU needs to add depth in the outfield due to the expected departure of Derek Curiel and Chris Stanfield. The Tigers also inked outfielders Jason Wachs and Bino Watters.
