LSU volleyball star named national player of the week

LSU volleyball outside hitter Jurnee Robinson earned AVCA Division I Player of the Week honors for Week 1, the organization announced Tuesday. Robinson, who also earned SEC Player of the Week honors Monday, is the second player in program history to ever earn the AVCA's top weekly honor, joining Sam Dabbs who did so the week of October 13, 2009.

Across the two matches and nine sets in LSU's opening weekend, Robinson scored 63.5 points, tallied 56 kills, recorded 25 digs and slammed 8 blocks, three of which were solo blocks. Her 7.06 points per set leads Division I, and her 6.22 kills per set ranks second behind Boston College's Audrey Ross. She is the only player in the top 65 in total kills who's played fewer than 10 sets, and she's eighth overall there. The seven women ahead of her have played at least 13 sets.
