Mammoth match Devils’ offer sheet for Barrett Hayton

Barrett Hayton will not be coming to New Jersey.

The Mammoth announced Wednesday that they've matched the Devils’ offer sheet for the 26-year-old.

Utah is now on the hook for Hayton’s $4.7 million contract for next season.

If the Mammoth declined to meet the one-year offer, the RFA center would’ve landed in New Jersey with a 2027 second-round pick going the other way.

Instead, the Devils have to look elsewhere to fill out their lineup.

Hayton has battled the injury bug but he’s been productive when healthy, scoring 52 goals and totaling 124 points in 264 games over the past four years.

The former fifth overall pick likely would’ve slotted in as the Devils' third line center.
