Man stabbed and killed in Taylor, woman arrested in Detroit

A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in the parking lot of a Taylor apartment complex just steps from the Taylor Police Department early Thursday morning, and a 26-year-old woman was taken into custody hours later following a brief foot chase in Detroit.Watch Carli Petrus's video report: Taylor police found the victim lying next to his truck in the Taylor Park Townhomes parking lot on Elm Street around 4 a.m., suffering from a single stab wound.Lt. Joshua Schneider said investigators believe the two had been involved in some sort of dating relationship."Used some investigative techniques and looked at some previous reports that lead us to believe this could be a domestic-related situation. We were able to look into that and follow the trail and we were able to locate her in Detroit," Schneider said.After allegedly killing the man, police say the suspect got into a vehicle, drove to Detroit, crashed, got out and then tried to hide."We located her vehicle abandoned. A few minutes later, we set up a perimeter on that location and contacted MSP K-9 who responded to the scene and after a short time, we were able to locate her just beyond the vehicle," Schneider said.Exclusive video obtained by 7 News Detroit shows officers with the suspect after finding her hiding behind a bush near a vacant home in Detroit.Schneider said investigators are still working to determine the full circumstances of the stabbing."All the circumstances and the location are still being investigated at this time. I don't even know her," Liz said.The violence has left some neighbors on edge, particularly given how close it occurred to the police station. Hussein Alhayali said he and his wife recently moved into Taylor Park Townhomes."And the only reason I moved into these apartments is just because it's right near the police department, so I felt more safe, more secure. But now when I see this, this is giving me an alert that I need to move out as soon as possible," Alhayali said.Police say the incident appears to be isolated. Heading into the holiday weekend, Schneider urged the community to consider the lasting consequences of violence."Violence is just not worth it. Walk the other way, you know, not have contact with each other, move on," Schneider said.The 26-year-old suspect remains in custody.
