The legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer could be back wearing the German colors in a matter of days. The #1 choice for Julian Nagelsmann at this summer’s tournament has yet to suit up for Germany after an injury, but could be approaching his first start in two years very shortly.

Heiko Niedderer reports that Manuel Neuer is back in team training for the first time since his calf injury, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. While there has been no specific timeline given, Neuer is likely targeting a return in time for the match against Curaçao. With no offense to Curaçao though, it doesn’t make sense to risk an injury when Germany will be massively favorited against the small island nation.

In his place, Oliver Baumann did a fine job against Finland and the USA in the pre-tournament friendlies, and frankly there wasn’t much the Hoffenheim veteran could have done to stop the only goal that he did concede. Is Nagelsmann making the right choice in appointing the Bayern Munich goalkeeper? With questionable consistency this season, it is a decision that will be judged harshly depending on Neuer’s performance in the coming weeks.
