Rachin Ravindra starred with a magnificent 98 from 44 balls in Welsh Fire's 167-5, whacking seven sixes in a match-winning partnership of 116 with Joe Root.
Root played the anchor role with 29 from 26 balls after Fire lost openers Phil Salt and Matt Short early and struggled to 25-2 at the end of the powerplay.
Ravindra led the impressive recovery, reaching his half century from just 22 balls and striking his biggest six off Tom Curran, sending the ball out of the ground.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHe was on course for the Hundred's fastest century, surpassing Harry Brook's 41-ball effort in 2023, but was starved of the strike late in the innings and fell with two balls left.
The New Zealand international also took the crucial wicket of James Vince when MI London's chase was going down to the wire, taking a brilliant diving catch off his own bowling to remove the set batter for 68 off 38 balls.
The wicket left MI London needing 46 from 28 balls, though that was not out of the equation with the destructive Sherfane Rutherford in the middle.
But Fire's seamers closed out the victory, led by Lockie Ferguson who took 4-27 including the destructive middle order trio of Jason Roy, Sam Curran and Nicholas Pooran.

In the earlier men's game, Mitchell Marsh starred with the bat as Sunrisers Leeds secured their first win of The Hundred, defeating Southern Brave by five runs at Headingley.
Sunrisers began the 2026 campaign with a seven-wicket defeat by MI London, but they bounced back with a hard-fought victory, while Brave remain winless after two matches.

The Australian looked dangerous from the outset and capitalised fully on a wayward set from Luke Wood, which went for 28 runs and included four free hits, as Sunrisers raced to 102 without loss at the halfway stage of the innings.
Adil Rashid slowed down the scoring by claiming three wickets in the following set, including Marsh for 69 from 34 balls.
Dan Lawrence, however, ensured the home side finished strongly with a 24-ball half-century, while Tom Alsop added a rapid 21 as they posted 187-5.

Fellow opener Jamie Smith hit 30 from 18 balls to put the visitors on a healthy 80-2 after 46 balls, before Marcus Stoinis injected further momentum into the chase.
The Australian smashed 31 from 16 balls, including four fours and a six, before falling to Sunrisers spinner Abrar Ahmed, who registered 2-33.
Tristan Stubbs kept Brave in contention with an unbeaten 43 from 20 balls, but disciplined bowling from Nathan Ellis and Brydon Carse in the closing stages secured a narrow win for Sunrisers.

Manchester Super Giants play Birmingham Phoenix in the women's competition at Old Trafford at 11:00 BST, followed by the men's game at 14:30.
