Massive fire engulfs Lochmoor Club in Grosse Pointe Woods, Wednesday
Multiple crews remain on the scene of a fire that has destroyed part of the Lochmoor Club in Grosse Pointe Woods on Wednesday. The fire took place on Wednesday afternoon afternoon, and officials have not released more information about the scope of the damage as of Wednesday evening. Crews say the fire was first reported around 3 p.m. Watch our Latest Updates in the Video Player BelowChopper 7 was able to capture the scene of the flames, which appeared to be raging near the balcony terrace. The private country club originally opened in 1918. As of Thursday morning, crews remain on scene putting out hot spots and assessing the damage. “It wasn’t about golf anymore. It was just pretty much just watching some place you really love fall to the ground," Megan Huizdos, a member at the club, said. Lifelong member Eddie Nepi told 7 News Detroit that members were told the fire started from the kitchen.“I just got an email and some text messages that there was a fire here. And, I finished up work. So, I ran over and it didn’t look too bad. And then, all of a sudden, it just seemed like it got out of control very fast," Nepi said.“We basically stopped for like a little bit, finished, and then watched it pretty much burn up and collapse," Huizdos said. “This is one of two golf clubs in the Grosse Pointes. And, we certainly love it a lot. It’s been here for many, many years," Grosse Pointe Woods Mayor Arthur Bryant said. “The whole dining room was renovated. So, that was cool being here with everyone. And, to see it go like this, it’s a shame. A lot of good memories here," Nepi said.
