Mets look to put a dent in Marlins’ playoff hopes

The New York Mets (65-78) head back to Florida to face the Miami Marlins (72-72) in an attempt to hurt their division rival's postseason dreams. The Mets have dropped six out of ten games to the Marlins this year, including all three games at loanDepot Park back in May. The Mets returned the favor by sweeping the Marlins at Citi Field in May before dropping three of four at Citi Field in the summer.

The Mets flexed their muscle in a series win against the Giants, socking eight home runs across the three games. They slugged five homers in the first game, a 10-6 victory on Friday night, which included two dingers from Francisco Alvarez. The Giants turned the tables on Saturday, handing New York a 9-5 loss by hitting five home runs of their own. The Mets did manage a homer from AJ Ewing, which represented the first runs he's driven in since July 31, ending a lengthy stretch of futility. Sunday's game was a much more modest affair, with the Mets trailing 2-0 heading into the eighth. That's when they mounted a rally, with a solo home run from Brett Baty getting them on the board and a three-run homer from Bo Bichette putting them ahead for good and resulting in the team securing a 4-2 victory.
