The fate of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel will soon be determined, it appears. According to multiple reports on Sunday, the University of Michigan board of regents will hold a meeting on Thursday and will likewise reveal the contents of the AD-commissioned investigation into the culture inside the athletic department, which led to multiple scandals over the course of several years.

While some have categorized the investigation as one into Manuel, that wasn't precisely the case. Even so, Manuel is not immune to potentially being relieved from his post, as many are indicating may happen.

The University of Michigan's regents are expected to discuss an investigation into the culture of its athletic department on Thursday, sources told ESPN. As part of the review, a decision on the future of athletic director Warde Manuel is anticipated in the coming days.

A university spokesman told ESPN on Sunday that the school had nothing to report and declined further comment.

Michigan commissioned the investigation in December following the firing of football coach Sherrone Moore for having an "inappropriate relationship with a staff member."

The final straw was that of the Sherrone Moore-Paige Shiver relationship, exacerbated recently as she has decided to pursue legal action against the university following the relationship and its dissolution in December 2025. But Manuel's reluctance to fire former hockey coach Mel Pearson, his handling of the Connor Stalions advanced signal scandal, John Beilein's departure, and the handling of Juwan Howard subsequent his issues following his hiring. And while some put the losses of Jim Harbaugh and Dusty May into Manuel's foibles, there was little that could be done keeping either from pursuing professional-level jobs.

The rumor mill online indicates that Manuel may be formulating a buy-out, but there is nothing substantial to indicate whether that is, or not, happening.
