April 25, 2026, was a day that changed the lives of Alex Cora and Chad Tracy forever.

It was the day that Cora and six assistant coaches were shockingly fired by the Boston Red Sox, who replaced Cora with interim manager Chad Tracy. At the time, Tracy was managing the organization's Triple-A affiliate in Worcester.

In Ken Rosenthal's eye-opening article for The Athletic on Monday (subscription required), both managers discussed their surprisingly close relationship with each other. Chad's father, Jim, also weighed in.

"Prior to Chad’s situation developing there in Boston, I have to tell you this: Alex Cora treated my son like royalty," Jim Tracy told Rosenthal. "I am forever grateful for that. And you know the other thing? If Chad needs another opinion besides dad’s, he wouldn’t be the least bit shy about calling Alex Cora because that’s the kind of relationship that they maintain with one another. I think it’s so special."

Chad Tracy and Cora both described their relationship in similar terms. They have remained in touch since Cora was fired over a month ago.

"Alex has been incredible to me," Chad Tracy said. "The details of it, I’ll leave out. But we’ve talked a handful of times and he has expressed nothing but support for me. It doesn’t surprise me. He’s an amazing human being."

Meanwhile, Cora expressed his appreciation for both Tracys and revealed his special bond with Chad.

"Chad has always been there for me. From the moment he joined the organization, I felt like I had a teammate who saw things the way I did and who was always willing to listen when I needed someone to talk to about team matters," Cora told Rosenthal.

It's been a chaotic season for both men, but it's good to hear that their new roles haven't negatively affected their relationship.
