Several Nebraska football targets are coming up on commitment decisions over the course of the next couple of days. One Nebraska football target in particular appears to be trending away from the program.

Class of 2027 three-star safety Kamauri Whitfield is set to announce his decision on July 6. Rivals.com’s Tim Verghese believes that momentum has slipped back in favor of the Florida Gators.

Whitfield is the 82nd overall safety in the 2027 class and the 60th overall player in his class from the state of Florida, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. Florida and Nebraska are the two teams that appear most involved in his recruitment.

The safety most recently visited the Huskers on June 12-14. Verghese's report that multiple sources have indicated that momentum is now back Florida’s way.

This would certainly be a disappointing recruiting loss for the program. However, Nebraska has safeties Corey Hadley and Tory Pittman in the class already, so they have no shortage of depth at the safety position.

Nevertheless, this seems like a recruitment to watch up until the sixth.
