Three new wildfires have broken out in Spain, the state broadcaster TVE reported on Thursday, after days of blazes left parts of the country devastated.

The fires, in the province of León in the north-west of the country, have so far forced 300 residents from the area around the village of San Cipriano to leave their homes. They have been temporarily accommodated in schools and sports halls.

Earlier, another fire broke out in a nature reserve in the province of Zamora, near the border with Portugal, A campsite and 12 villages were evacuated on Thursday morning, the broadcaster reported.

Around 1,000 people were affected. Firefighters and emergency services had now managed to contain the flames on two fronts, a spokesman for the local authority said.

Both regions also experienced severe fires last year that destroyed tens of thousands of hectares of forest and scrubland.

The new fires coincide with the fourth heatwave of 2026, which is expected to last until at least Sunday.

Temperatures of over 40 degrees and strong winds are hampering fire-fighting efforts in many places. Several fires are also active in neighbouring Portugal.

Meanwhile, there was a sense of relief in the province of Castellón on the Levante coast where the fire in the Vall d'Uixó area, north of Valencia has been contained, according to the authorities.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez plans to visit the disaster area in the province of Ávila today, where the largest fire in the country's recent history has been raging. Around 50,000 hectares have been devastated there.

The fire has now been brought under control. Ávila is also part of the severely affected region of Castile and León.
