Atletico Madrid centre-forward Alexander Sorloth has emerged as a transfer target for Newcastle United.

The Magpies are looking to introduce a new dimension to their attack, targeting a physical focal point capable of providing tactical variety.

Sorloth, who joined Atletico in 2024 following a prolific spell with Villarreal, has established himself as a reliable goalscorer in La Liga.

The 30-year-old striker scored 20 goals in 54 games across all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign, marking his third consecutive 20-goal season.

His aerial prowess, hold-up play, and clinical finishing in the box make him the archetypal number nine.

Those qualities could greatly benefit manager Eddie Howe, particularly when his side face low blocks in the Premier League.

Despite his manager admitting that he ‘has something special‘, Sorloth has faced strong competition for game time. Julian Alvarez has often been the preferred starter.

This dynamic has fuelled transfer speculation, with Atletico reportedly open to a sale to raise funds for reinforcements.

Newcastle face competition from Premier League rivals Fulham, Sunderland and Everton. The prospect of returning to England could appeal to Sorloth, who previously had a brief spell with Crystal Palace.

The Magpies have stepped up their transfer activity this summer, having parted ways with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.

The Tyneside-based outfit have agreed a deal to sign Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim.

They have also intensified their pursuit of Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi, who is currently impressing with Switzerland at the World Cup.
