NFC East rivals emerge in Josh Sweat trade rumors
When Josh Sweat's frustration with life as part of the Arizona Cardinals became public, Philadelphia Eagles fans immediately paid attention. The reasons why are obvious. That reaction was understandable. Sweat remains a fan favorite in Philadelphia, and anytime a former Eagle appears unhappy with his current situation, speculation tends to follow.
Some wondered whether a reunion could make sense. Others simply monitored the situation from afar. Before long, reports emerged suggesting the Cardinals had no interest in moving him. That should have ended the discussion. Then again, this is the NFL.

If recent years have taught football fans anything, it's that organizational positions can change quickly. Myles Garrett seemed untouchable until he wasn't. Other stars have gone from 'not available' to wearing different uniforms in a matter of months. That's part of what makes ESPN's recent trade speculation intriguing.
In an early look at possible trade-deadline candidates, Dan Graziano acknowledged Arizona's current stance but still identified several teams that could make sense if circumstances change. Among them were the New England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys.
The thought of yet another Eagles Super Bowl hero joining the Patriots raises an eyebrow, but for Eagles fans, Dallas stands out more than New England. From Dallas' perspective, the logic is fairly straightforward. Pass rushers are always in demand, and Sweat remains one of the league's more productive edge defenders when healthy.

That would make the contract attractive despite its overall size. A proven veteran pass rusher joining a division rival is never something Eagles fans enjoy imagining.
The Cardinals remain the largest obstacle
Josh Sweat already knows many of Philadelphia's offensive tendencies and personnel. That would make him a valuable ally and a concerning opponent. The problem with the theory is simple. The Cardinals don't appear interested. Moving Sweat would also create significant dead-money implications, and Arizona signed him with the expectation that he would become a foundational piece of its defense.
That's difficult to walk away from after such a short period. Could things change before the trade deadline? Of course, they could. If frustration continues to build or Arizona's season goes sideways, conversations that seem impossible today could become realistic tomorrow.
