Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has reportedly taken one step closer to entering the NFL Supplemental Draft this summer.

According to ESPN, Texas Tech’s appeal to have Sorsby’s eligibility reinstated was denied by the NCAA.

This comes on the heels of Sorsby losing eligibility after he admitted to gambling, including on his own team when he attended Indiana.

There is still one more avenue for Sorsby to play college ball in 2026 after he filed for an injunction in the 99th District Court in Lubbock Country.

No decision has come down from Judge Ken Curry yet.

If Sorsby fails to regain his eligibility, we could see him enter the NFL Supplemental Draft this year.

Should Sorsby take that route, here’s a list of teams that could make him the first NFL Supplemental Draft pick since 2019.

The Jets signed Geno Smith and drafted Cade Klubnik, but Smith is in his late 30s and was one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL last season and Klubnik doesn’t offer much hope because he was a fourth-round pick.

The Jets could very well wait until the 2027 NFL Draft, which is expected to be deep at the quarterback position.

But with three first-round picks next year, the Jets are in a great spot to take a swing on Sorsby with a 2027 pick if they think he could be “the guy” in New York.

A quarterbacks room that includes Malik Willis and Quinn Ewers offers zero guarantees for the Dolphins.

Willis impressed in relief duty for the Green Bay Packers the past two years, but the jury is still out on his ability to be a franchise quarterback thanks to his small sample size.

The same can be said for Ewers, who has just four NFL games (three starts) under his belt.

The Dolphins would have a crowded quarterbacks room with Sorsby in the mix, but that’s a good problem to have at the most important position in the NFL.

Deshaun Watson is entering the final year of his contract and barring a massive turnaround from his dismal showings during his Browns tenure, he’s unlikely to be back in 2027.

Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders is competing against Watson for the starting job this year, but we still don’t know if the Colorado product is the long-term answer in Cleveland.

Head coach Todd Monken has cast doubt on the Browns being interested in Sorsby, but general manager Andrew Berry hasn’t closed the door on that option.

“No different than we do every year,” Berry said of possible interest in Sorsby. “We’ll do the work on all the prospects, and then we’ll make the appropriate decision for the organization.”

A quarterbacks room that includes journeymen Jacoby Brissett, who is currently in the midst of a holdout, and Gardner Minshew and 2026 third-round pick Carson Beck doesn’t exactly inspire confidence for the future under center in Arizona.

We know neither Brissett nor Minshew are long-term solutions, and Beck is a total wild card as he prepares for his rookie campaign.

With general manager Monti Ossenfort likely on the hot seat as he enters his fourth season on the job, Sorsby could give him another avenue to keep his it.

The Buccaneers have a good starter in place for 2026 in Baker Mayfield, but this could also be his last season with the team.

Mayfield is entering the final year of his contract and recently admitted extension talks with the Bucs aren’t going well.

“Not anywhere close to what we were thinking,” Mayfield said of extension talks with the Bucs, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “Would love to be here long term but as of right now that’s not exactly the case.”

If Mayfield and the Bucs remain at a standstill, it’s possible Tampa Bay could explore adding Sorsby as the heir-apparent.

The Vikings already have a crowded situation at quarterback with Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy, but neither one is a lock to answer the bell.

Murray is a solid starting quarterback, but injuries have been an issue for him during his career and he’s only on a one-year deal.

Meanwhile, McCarthy, who appears to be trailing Murray early on in their competition, was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL in 2025, which leaves his future in doubt.

If the Vikings aren’t fully confident in either quarterback, it’s possible they take a swing on Sorsby.
