NL MVP candidate placed on IL with oblique strain

The Washington Nationals have received disappointing news during the final stretch of the MLB season.

According to Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic, star outfielder James Wood has been placed on the injured list with a mild oblique strain. While the injury isn't considered severe, and manager Drew Butera had positive things to say, oblique strains are among the more unpredictable injuries in baseball, making it difficult to project exactly when Wood will return.
