Padres fight back into Wild Card position

After returning to Petco Park from a disastrous road trip, the San Diego Padres had their backs against the wall. Squandering an opportunity to put distance between themselves and the other Wild Card hopefuls, the Padres had to have a successful home stand to remain in contention for a playoff spot.

Their home versus road pattern has been evident throughout the season; the Friars are not a good road team. Their 32-39 road record, seven games under .500, is the worst for any team with a winning record except the Chicago White Sox (eight games under). The Pirates are the only other winning team with a losing road record, and they are three games under.
