Padres sign 29 players after MLB draft
The San Diego Padres signed 20 of the 21 players they drafted in the 2026 MLB amateur draft as well as nine undrafted free agents. Their top draft pick, RHP Coleman Borthwick, 18, was considered the top right-handed high school pitcher available in the draft. At 6-foot-6 and 255 pounds, Borthwick has already topped out his fastball at 100 mph. He also has a quality slider and has toyed with a changeup, which he hasn't really needed at the high school level.
His command is considered advanced for his level, and his delivery has been consistent. Borthwick signed for $3.8 million with the slot bonus for the top pick being $4,224,700.
