Pakistan has again attacked targets in neighbouring Afghanistan, saying it struck hideouts used by militants including the Pakistani Taliban.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said late on Sunday on X that security forces had carried out a ground operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

That was followed by strikes on hideouts and bases in the border region used by militants including the Pakistani Taliban, also known as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), he said.

According to Tarar, three targets were destroyed in the Afghan provinces of Paktia, Paktika and Kunar, and several suspected terrorists were killed.

He described the strikes as a response to recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan, including an incident in the port city of Karachi on Saturday in which three security personnel were killed.

In a statement, Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid condemned the attacks.

"The attacks resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of civilians, including women and children. We strongly condemn this cowardly act of aggression and consider it a crime and an act of brutality," he wrote on X.

Local broadcaster Tolo News reported that more than 30 people were killed and more than 100 injured in the airstrikes.

Nuclear-armed Pakistan and Afghanistan have repeatedly exchanged attacks since late last year.

Islamabad accuses Kabul of harbouring militants who carry out attacks in Pakistan. Kabul denies the accusation.

A temporary ceasefire had been in place in the conflict, but Pakistan has described the situation as an "open war" since late February.
