The Pittsburgh Pirates have some tough decisions to make ahead of the upcoming MLB trade deadline on August 3.

Right now, the team holds a 51-48 record. They are close to being a Wild Card contender, but are still missing a few pieces. Could they turn into a buyer before the deadline?

Should the Pirates decide to buy, there are a few areas that need to be focused on. One of those areas comes in the bullpen at the closer position.

Gregory Soto has been the team's closer so far this season. He has not had a lot of success in that role.

In his 41 appearances, Soto has compiled a 5-2 record, a 3.98 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, a 2.6 K/BB ratio, 12 saves, seven holds, and five blown saves. Finding an upgrade before the deadline passes should be a priority.

With that being said, Pittsburgh has been urged to consider making a blockbuster trade for one of the best closers in baseball.

Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer believes that San Diego Padres closer Mason Miller should be a potential target. He even suggested what a potential trade package between the two teams could look like.

San Diego Padres Receive: Jared Jones, Edward Florentino

Jones has made nine starts in the Majors this season, compiling a 2-1 record, a 4.05 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, a 4.0 K/BB ratio, and 40 innings pitched. Florentino is currently the No. 27 ranked prospect in the Pirates' organization.

While that would be a steep price to pay, Pittsburgh would be getting an elite closer.

Miller, who is now 27 years old, has been a lockdown arm in the Padres' bullpen. He has appeared in 39 games, racking up a 2-1 record to go along with a 0.89 ERA, a 0.84 WHIP, a 5.4 K/BB ratio, 25 saves, and no blown saves.

Not only would Miller be a pickup to win now, he would become a long-term cornerstone for Pittsburgh. That is the kind of target the Pirates should pursue.

Whether or not Pittsburgh has any level of interest in a blockbuster trade for Miller remains to be seen. But, if the Pirates are open to swinging for the fences, he would be one way to fix a major issue while improving contention chances in the present.
