Post 18 drops pair to surging Sioux Falls West

Jul. 2—MITCHELL — A Sioux Falls Post 15 West squad battling for one of the top places in the American Legion Class A baseball standings proved too much for Palace City Post 18 on Wednesday night, sweeping a doubleheader at Drake Field.

Post 15 West nabbed an 8-6 eight-inning win in the first game, then powered to a 9-3 final in the second contest. It was only the second time Palace City (16-14) was swept at home this season, while Post 15 West (25-8) improved to 8-1 in its last nine games against South Dakota Class A teams.

Palace City led 6-5 entering the seventh inning of Game 1, but Post 15 West managed to force an extra frame, where Boston Bryant launched a two-run home run that ended up as the game-winning hit.

Carter McCormick and Canon Moller each had two hits and one walk for Post 18, which was aided by four errors from Post 15 West. Moller, Kaiden Allen and Tyler Christensen notched one run batted in apiece. Jacob Ebert hurled six innings in his start on the mound but did not earn a decision. The pitching loss was tagged to Nolan Widstrom in relief.

Bryant finished with two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored for Post 15 West, and Jackson Dunn also plated three runs. Noah MacFarlane earned credit for the pitching win.

A six-run third inning was the difference for Post 15 West in Game 2.

Jaxson Hartman posted two hits, one walk and two RBIs for PCB, which had just five hits and two walks as a team in the contest. Ian Weber was hit with the loss on the mound in a four-inning start, though only three of seven runs scored on his watch were earned, as PCB had five errors.

For Post 15 West, Dunn and Brody Jacobson each drove in two runs. Caden Voss was the winning pitcher for his five-inning start, as he and reliever Matnel Jensen each struck out five batters.

Palace City Post 18 takes on Aberdeen on the road on Thursday.
