      The Detroit Red Wings officially have all of their Carters under contract. Restricted free agent goaltender Carter Gylander has agreed to terms on a one-year pact. The team was not revealing the financial terms of the deal.

      Earlier this offseason, the Red Wings signed RFA forward Carter Mazur.

      Gylander might not get the attention of other goalie prospects in the Detroit system like Michal Postava and Trey Augustine. However, he is highly thought of by the club's management team.

      "We wouldn't have traded (2021 first-round pick) Sebastian (Cossa) had we not been comfortable with the depth that we have in goal coming with Trey and Michal, Carter Gylander, (Michal) Pradel and now (Michal) Orsulak, who we drafted," former GM Steve Yzerman said shortly after the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

      Gylander, 25, spent the majority of the 2025-26 season with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye. There, he was posting a 20-9-5 record with a 2.78 goals-against average. He had a .901 save percentage and two shutouts in 34 regular-season appearances. The 6-foot-5, 197-pound netminder also logged a 6-4 record with a 2.80 GAA and an .899 save percentage in 10 Kelly Cup Playoff starts.

      Additionally, Gylander played eight games with the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins in 2025-26. He showed a 7-0-1 record with a 1.62 GAA and a .942 save percentage. He posted one shutout.

      "Gylander, when he's come in, he's been fantastic," Cossa said late last season.

      Selected by the Red Wings in the seventh round (191st overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Gylander has compiled a 40-18-10 record with a 2.70 goals-against average, a .904 save percentage and four shutouts in 68 games with the Walleye. Gylander has also tallied a 9-1-1 record with a 2.15 goals-against average, a .926 save percentage and one shutout in 11 games with the Griffins.

      "I felt like Detroit's been pretty good for exposing me in the right areas and then learning and growing in the right areas," Gylander said.
