Jehuda Aharon Widawski, said to be Israel's oldest Holocaust survivor, has died at the age of 107, Israeli media and the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial reported on Monday.

Widawski, who was born in Poland in 1919, passed away on Sunday, according to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and several Israeli media outlets.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog offered his condolences to Widawski's "lovely family."

Widawski is said to have survived the Auschwitz concentration camp, among others. A large part of his family was murdered during Nazi rule. He emigrated to Israel in 1950.

From 1978 onwards, he was involved in the restoration of Jewish graves in Poland. He also helped to identify and mark more than 3,000 graves, according to a statement from the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial.

Israel's president stated on the X platform that Widawski's life was "a remarkable testimony to the triumph of life, remembrance and renewal."

The Nazis murdered some 6 million Jews in Europe during the Holocaust. The relevant state agency reported in April that around 109,000 Holocaust survivors were still living in Israel.
