CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Philadelphia 76ers selected Alabama star Labaron Philon Jr. with the No. 22 pick in the draft as they continue to build their roster around their core of Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Joel Embiid, and Paul George. Philadelphia will look to play fast with Philon and the guards leading the way.

Philon stands at 6-foot-2 and is on the slighter side a bit, which could hurt him at times on the defensive end of the floor, but he is going to work hard in an effort to be impactful on that end and be an all-around player. President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey is a fan of his competitiveness and that's something Philon will lean on for fans to recognize.

"I would just say first of all that they’re getting somebody who’s going to play hard and be in the gym every day," Philon stated. "I would describe my game as kind of smooth, being able to get guys involved and provide for myself. Being with the Sixers is definitely a fun experience for me, coming to a great team with great coaches, great staff, and everything."

It's obvious that Philon is a worker and he wants to be the best he can be on an everyday basis. Joining a team with players like Maxey and Edgecombe, who live in the gym, will do wonders for the rookie as he begins his NBA career. The young guard likes to do solo workouts as he can work on his craft in a way that makes him comfortable. The work ethic is obvious for the youngster.

"It’s like playing by yourself, shooting by yourself," Philon explained. "I actually think I was rebounding for myself, too. Being by yourself, you have to work on a lot of things. Just using that imagination to put yourself in game situations. I feel like that really helped me a lot at a young age, trying to see where the defense is coming from. As a guard, you’re trying to see where the help is coming from. I feel like that helped me become a better passer. Just making the game easy for myself and using that imagination."

The Sixers will get a closer look at Philon when the summer league begins on July 9 out in Las Vegas.
