At least eight people have been killed in Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, including along the Ukraine-Moldova border and in the southeast, according to regional officials.

Two civilians were killed and three others were injured overnight when Russian drones hit the Starokozache border crossing with Moldova, in the southern Odesa region, Governor Oleh Kiper said on Wednesday. The attack caused a fire and briefly halted crossing operations, which Ukraine’s customs agency confirmed had resumed by mid-afternoon.

In the southern port city of Kherson, two civilians – a 73-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman – were killed in separate Russian drone attacks on Wednesday morning, the regional prosecutor’s office said, adding that a war crimes investigation was opened.

Two separate Russian drone attacks killed a 34-year-old man and injured a 52-year-old woman in the town of Kushuhum in the Zaporizhia region, according to Ivan Fedorov, a regional defence council co-chair.

An early-morning Russian assault on the southern city of Mykolaiv killed one person and wounded five others, Ukraine’s emergency services agency said, adding that homes, cafes, shops and warehouses were damaged and a large fire broke out at one site.

In the eastern Donetsk region, regional military administration head Vadym Filashkin said on Wednesday that an aerial bomb struck the city of Sloviansk, killing one person, wounding another and destroying a home, while five further bombs hit near the city of Kramatorsk, wounding eight people and damaging 27 homes in the village of Bilenke.

The Russian Defence Ministry said its forces had struck a Ukrainian cargo vessel, carrying military equipment, in the Black Sea, en route to the port of Odesa, as well as a warehouse in Kyiv, allegedly belonging to a company manufacturing drones, Russian news agencies reported.

Moscow resumed ⁠its near-constant air attacks on Kyiv on Tuesday after a brief halt during a visit by ‌US peace negotiators. Officials said five people were killed in the capital.

Meanwhile, Russian forces shot down 596 Ukrainian drones during the night, the Defence Ministry said Wednesday.

In Russia, Ukranian attacks killed four people, including a child, in Novorossiysk in the southern Krasnodar region. Another 29 were injured, three of them seriously, Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said on Telegram.

Mayor Andrei Kravchenko said drone debris fell on several businesses and close to a residential building in Novorossiysk late on Tuesday.

Ukrainian authorities confirmed attacks in the area, saying that ⁠military vessels at a naval ⁠base in Novorossiysk were hit overnight, the ‌commander of Ukraine’s drone forces, Robert Brovdi, said.

Brovdi ⁠said missile carriers ⁠were among the vessels “lost” at ⁠the base, ⁠but did ⁠not say how many vessels had ‌been struck.

Novorossiysk, a ⁠frequent target of Ukrainian drone attacks, is a key outlet for ‌Russian oil, oil products and grain exports, among ‌other ‌commodities.
