At least seven people were killed and dozens more injured in Ukrainian drone attacks in Russia, local authorities said on Saturday.

Seven people died in the Tambov region and there were also 25 injured, the regional Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov said on Telegram. The victims were employees of a distribution centre belonging to the popular Russian online retailer Wildberries, he said. The city of Kotovsk, where the warehouse is located, is nearly 400 km from Ukraine's eastern border.

A Wildberries warehouse was also hit in the city of Elektrostal, around 50 kilometres east of Moscow. Twenty-four people were injured, some of them seriously, Governor Andrei Vorobyov said.

In the area around the capital, a fire broke out at an oil depot site in the city of Noginsk, where a maternity hospital also had to be evacuated for safety reasons, he said.

Russia's air defences shot down 48 drones, he said, although the information could not be independently verified.

Ukraine has been defending itself for more than four years against Russian forces, with massive Western military and financial aid. Kiev mainly uses drones for counterattacks on Russian targets.
