RUSTON — Two of Louisiana's top football programs will square off this season in New Orleans.
Ruston High School, which has played in an LHSAA championship in each of the last four seasons, announced on its X (formerly Twitter) account Wednesday it will face two-time defending Division I select champion Edna Karr on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. at the Caesars Superdome.
The Bearcats, who are led by Jerrod Baugh, clinched the D-I nonselect championship in 2023 following their 31-17 victory against Zachary, marking their ninth overall LHSAA championship.
Ruston's previous trip to the D-I nonselect finals ended with a 21-20 loss to Ouachita last fall, but it's stacked with D-I talent with rising seniors Ahmad Hudson (LSU), Jayden Anding (LSU), Josiah Morgan (Baylor), Sam Hartwell (Louisiana Tech) and Kelian Davis (Northwestern State).
The Cougars, who were ranked by MaxPreps as the sixth-best team in the nation, have clinched eight overall LHSAA championships, six of which came under Karr and Grambling alumnus Brice Brown. Karr defeated St. Augustine 49-14 in the 2025 D-I select finals and graduated 30 seniors from its latest championship campaign. Twenty of those seniors signed with D-I programs.
