Sam Budnyk, Palm Beach County coaching legend, dies

Samuel F. "Sam" Budnyk, the winningest coach in Palm Beach County history and a pioneering advocate for racial and gender equity in high school athletics, died on Friday, July 17. He was 92.

Budnyk spent 46 years shaping athletics at Cardinal Newman, serving as athletic director and coaching multiple sports while building one of the most accomplished careers in Florida high school sports history.
