SAN DIEGO (FOX5/KUSI) — San Diego’s effort to bring the 2029 Invictus Games to America’s Finest City has come to an end.

The Invictus Games San Diego 2029 Bid Committee congratulated Daejeon, Republic of Korea, after the Invictus Games Foundation officially selected the city to host the 2029 Games. Daejeon will become the first city in Asia to host the international adaptive sports competition.

San Diego was one of three finalists in what organizers described as a highly competitive bidding process, alongside Aalborg, Denmark, and Daejeon, South Korea.

The San Diego bid, led by the City of San Diego and the British American Business Council San Diego, spent two years campaigning to bring the Games to the region, highlighting the city’s strong military community and leadership in veteran wellness, recovery and mental health programs.

The Invictus Games bring together wounded, injured and sick service members and veterans from around the world, using sports as a pathway to recovery, rehabilitation and resilience.

While San Diego was not selected, bid leaders thanked the community for its support throughout the campaign.
