We are now getting a better picture of what prompted Serena Williams to skip the press conference after her Wimbledon singles loss to Maya Joint.

It may also somewhat explain the quick handshake and limited exchange at the net after the match.

Serena reportedly suffered a knee injury. As a result, playing women’s doubles tennis with Venus at Wimbledon may not happen.

I was looking forward to seeing Serena and Venus play Wimbledon doubles, perhaps more so than her singles return. They are slated to play on Thursday, July 2.

Given her limited training time for singles, I thought the Williams sisters could make the biggest impact at this year’s Wimbledon in doubles.

While many were trying to determine her next steps in singles, and if that would manifest in playing US Open warmup tournaments in Washington, DC, Canada, or Cincinnati, we now will be left to wait and wonder.
