The Steelers signed edge rusher Nick Herbig to a four-year, $100 million extension Tuesday that will keep him under contract through 2030.

On Saturday, the details of Herbig’s contract were released per Over the Cap.

As with most extensions, Herbig’s upcoming season will have a low cap hit at just $5.4 million as he enjoys the lump sum of a $19.8 million signing bonus.

After that, Herbig’s yearly cap hit will increase quite a bit:

Nick Herbig’s cap hits by year (with dead cap if released)

  • 2026: $5.4 million cap hit ($21 million dead cap)

  • 2027: $25.2 million cap hit ($15.7 million dead cap)

  • 2028: $22.2 million cap hit ($11.8 million dead cap)

  • 2029: $22.8 million cap hit ($7.9 million dead cap)

  • 2030: $28.1 million cap hit ($3.9 million dead cap)

With a $7 million roster bonus for 2028, and $6 million roster bonuses in both 2029 and 2030, Herbig’s deal has some flexibility in later seasons with his dead cap hit being under $10 million in each of the last two years. His fully guaranteed money over the course of the deal comes out to only $21 million in total.

Herbig will take up just 1.7% of the Steelers’ cap space in 2026, even though it will jump to 7.7% in 2027.
