Tesla Inc. (TSLA, Financials), the electric-vehicle maker, delivered a sharply mixed set of August registration numbers across Europe.
New Tesla registrations jumped 279% year over year in France and 104% in Denmark, according to data from local auto industry groups. The picture looked very different elsewhere.
Registrations fell 79% in Norway and 41% in Sweden, highlighting how uneven Tesla's European recovery remains. For investors, the contrast matters more than any single market.
Tesla's European sales have rebounded this year after two consecutive annual declines, helped by easier comparisons, higher fuel prices, government incentives and stronger demand for electric vehicles.
But the latest figures show that recovery is not happening at the same pace across the region.
That leaves questions around pricing, local incentives, competition and product demand as Tesla tries to rebuild momentum in one of its most important international markets.
The stock recently traded near $368 after gaining more than 5% in the prior session. The next major read comes later this week, when registration data from Britain and Germany, Europe's two largest auto markets, is expected.
