LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — As the Lansing Lugnuts commemorate their 30th anniversary, they are celebrating three decades of history in the Lansing community.

Since 1996, the Lansing Lugnuts have called Jackson Field (formerly Oldsmobile Park) home. Over the years, they’ve held several different major league affiliations, and have been the High-A affiliate of the Athletics since 2021.

The Lugnuts have produced over 200 players who have made it to the major leagues, including Carlos Beltrán, who is being inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 26th.

As part of the 30th anniversary celebration on Saturday night, many fans received a Lansing Lugnuts Beltrán jersey, helping to commemorate the Hall of Famer and the history of the Lugnuts.

Jesse Goldberg-Strassler is the voice of the Lansing Lugnuts and said the history the Lugnuts have provided over the last three decades can be seen by the enjoyment of their fans.

“I just think that over the years it has become more etched into the culture of this area and minor league baseball,” said Goldberg-Strassler.

Carol Walker has been working with the Lugnuts for the past 26 years and has experiences with the team that not many others throughout the organization can lay claim to.

While Walker currently works in guest services, she has also provided housing for many different Lugnut players and staff over the years, and taught English to players who are learning it as a second language.

“I helped Vladimir (Guerrero) Jr. with his English and it was such a thrill when I get to see him on TV and I know that I’ve helped him along the way,” Walker explained.

While creating those bonds and relationships that last a lifetime is always a great, Goldberg-Strassler said their main goal as an organization is to help their players make it to the next level.

“We want to see them graduate,” said Goldberg-Strassler. “I see it like a teacher moving that student up to the next grade. We want to see our guys make the major leagues.”
