Trent Grisham plays centerfield, and he does it well. You'd assume he's a useful baserunner, too.

He's not, though, and that crushed the New York Yankees' chances of beating the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.

With the Yankees down 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Grisham was on first when Ben Rice smoked a double to right-center.

It made perfect sense for Grisham to go from first-to-home on this play. He was getting waved around the whole way.

Dodgers centerfielder Andy Pages made an off-target relay throw toward the infield, and shortstop Mookie Betts had to make an awkward, on-the-run throw to the plate.

Betts' throw was perfect, and somehow, Grisham wasn't there yet.

Dalton Rushing tagged out the sliding Grisham to preserve L.A.'s lead that held up as the final score.

This isn't new. Grisham ranks in the bottom-10 of the league in taking extra bases.

He almost never goes from first-to-home on a double, either:

It's one of those unheralded skills that you don't even notice when someone does it pretty well.

When it's done poorly, though, it sticks out like a sore thumb -- especially when it so clearly contributes to losing a game like Grisham did on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
