CALGARY, Alberta - Thirteen cars of a CPKC freight train derailed today (Monday, July 13) in Calgary, sending several cars into adjacent wetlands.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada announced it has deployed investigators to the scene.

The derailment occurred about 7:30 a.m. and sent some cars into the Priddis Slough between the communities of Silverado and Chaparral in southwest Calgary. CityNews Calgary describes the location as a storm pond.

The Calgary Herald reports that the boxcars and tank cars involved were carrying freight including lumber, plywood, propane, and argon. CPKC told the newspaper no one was injured, and there were no indications of any leaks from the tank cars.

A hazardous materials team was on standby but had not been deployed, a Calgary Fire Department spokesman told the Herald.
