This offseason, there's been a string of athletic and academic recognitions for several Tulane Green Wave teams and individual student-athletes.

That trend continued on Monday, as both the Tulane men's and women's track and field teams were recognized as 2026 NCAA Division I All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Additionally, seven individual athletes were honored: two men and five women.

The Green Wave women's program posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.54. The men's team had a GPA that was nearly as strong, with a mark of 3.49. In order to qualify for this distinction from the USTFCCCA, teams had to maintain a GPA of somewhere between 3.0 and 4.0. To say that the Olive Green and Sky Blue blew those retirements out of the water would be an understatement.

Tulane also proudly recognized the seven individual student-athletes. The five honorees from the women's team include Sofie Groeninger, Cara Salsberry, Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas, Jasper Newton and Presley Wolfe.

Groeninger has already received one additional academic honor this season, being named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. She is an economics major from Anzing Germany.

Meanwhile, Salsberry had a massive season for the Green Wave, reaching the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championship East Region in both discus and shot put.

Dumonteil Cabanas is a neuroscience major from Merida, Yucatan, while Newton comes to Uptown from Long Island, New York, as an electric engineering student. Wolfe rounds out the women's honorees: she's a native of Jacksonville, Florida, and is majoring in legal studies in business.

On the men's side, Rogerio Amaral and Bernard Cheruiyot were selected to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.

Following an outstanding cross country season, Amaral was named the American Conference Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He is an anatomy major and a native of Coimbra, Portugal.

Cheruiyot is also no stranger to academic accolades, recently being named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. He hails from Eldoret, Kenya, and is majoring in exercise science.

To be considered for all-academic honors, student-athletes must have at least a 3.25 GPA. Their athletic accomplishes also must speak for themselves: student-athletes must have either finished in the top 96 in any individual championship event during the indoor season or in the top 48 in any championship event during the outdoor season.

The repeated success of Tulane Athletics at the academic level is notable, and it reflects the emphasis that the university puts into preparing its student-athletes for life beyond college.
