United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is due to arrive in Germany on Thursday for a two-day state visit aimed at taking bilateral relations to a new level.

Emirati officials said agreements worth billions are also expected to be signed during the visit, although details have yet to be announced.

At the start of the visit, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is due to welcome the UAE leader with military honours at Villa Borsig in Berlin. The two heads of state are then scheduled to hold talks.

Mohamed is also due to meet German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the afternoon, after the two last met during Merz's visit to Abu Dhabi in February.

Steinmeier is set to host a state banquet in the evening at his new official residence on the River Spree.

Germany and the UAE plan to significantly expand cooperation in areas including the economy, defence and arms, as well as foreign, energy and environmental policy.

Closer cooperation is also planned in the fight against organized crime and cybercrime. In the digital sector, the two countries are preparing a memorandum of understanding on broader cooperation, including the expansion of data centres.

Emirati officials said Germany would bring its industrial strength, technological and scientific expertise and globally competitive companies to the deeper partnership.

The UAE, meanwhile, offers capital, long-term investment capacity, international connections and access to some of the world's fastest-growing markets, they said.
