Ukraine attacked Russia overnight with hundreds of drones, again targeting Russia's largest online retailer, Wildberries, local authorities said on Friday.

The governor of Leningrad region - which surrounds the main city of St Petersburg - Alexander Drosdenko, said on Telegram that 59 drones had been intercepted. A fire broke out as a result of the attacks on Wildberries premises in the village of Novosaratovka. Three people were injured, he said.

Wildberries, often compared to Amazon in Russia, runs warehouses that sort and ship orders nationwide.

Elsewhere, a warehouse belonging to a poultry factory in the settlement of Sinyavino was also severely damaged. Large plumes of smoke were visible in the St Petersburg area. Eyewitnesses reported ash and burnt debris, some almost the size of a palm, falling from the sky.

Wildberries founder Tatyana Kim said on Telegram that three of the company's logistics centres in St Petersburg, the surrounding area and on the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea had been attacked in recent days.

Crimean leader Sergei Aksyonov, who was installed by Moscow in the annexed territory, wrote on Telegram that two people had been killed as a result of Ukrainian attacks. Five people were injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine had once again struck targets in Russia. He wrote on Telegram that an arms manufacturer in Kirov had been hit.

The regional governor, Alexander Sokolov, reported that there had been a missile strike on a factory in the city, located almost 800 kilometres north-east of Moscow.

He later reported that the attacks had killed six people and injured 26 others. Sokolov wrote that emergency services had since extinguished a fire.

The Defence Ministry in Moscow said that in total air defences had intercepted 571 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory and Crimea. The figures cannot be independently verified.

Ukraine has been defending itself with massive Western military and financial help against a Russian invasion for more than four years. In recent months, it has greatly expanded its counter-attacks on Russian territory, primarily using drones.
