Fighting along the front lines in south-eastern Ukraine remained intense on Tuesday, with Ukraine's military reporting 219 armed clashes across multiple sectors.

The fiercest fighting was around Pokrovsk in the eastern Donbass region, where Russian forces launched more than 40 assaults on Ukrainian positions, the General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces said in a battlefield update on Facebook.

Russia also continued attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine. A Russian missile strike on the southern port city of Odessa injured six people, Governor Oleh Kiper said. Explosions following Russian attacks were also reported in the eastern city of Kharkiv, though no further details were immediately available.

Russia has been waging a full-scale war against Ukraine for more than four years. Russian forces currently control around one-fifth of Ukrainian territory. Front lines have changed little in recent months, with Russia making only limited gains despite heavy losses. Russian forces have recently stepped up attacks on civilian targets in Ukrainian cities.
