Ukraine strikes warehouse of Russia's biggest online retailer

A Ukrainian drone attack set a large warehouse belonging to Russian online retailer Wildberries on fire overnight in Russia's Penza region, injuring at least one person and forcing the evacuation of about 200 workers, the regional governor said on Thursday.

Governor Oleg Melnichenko said the warehouse caught fire after being hit by drones, according to Russia's state TASS news agency.

The attack was the latest in a series of Ukrainian strikes this month targeting logistics centres operated by Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused the company of trading in goods used to support Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began in 2022. The Kremlin has rejected the accusation.

The highly visible attacks on Wildberries facilities have caused significant damage and also appear intended to unsettle the middle class in Russia's cities, where online shopping is widespread. Disruptions to supply chains are making the impact of the war more tangible for consumers.

Ukraine also struck a major Wildberries logistics centre and an oil refinery in the Russian city of Ryazan overnight into Wednesday.
