Ukraine attacked Russia with hundreds of drones overnight, injuring 10 people in the Moscow region and causing fires and damage, the regional governor said on Monday.

Falling drone debris had started fires in the industrial city of Podolsk, around 40 kilometres south of Moscow, Andrei Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow region, wrote on Telegram. He said civilian infrastructure and a house had been damaged.

Seven people were injured in Domodedovo, also around 40 kilometres south of Moscow, Vorobyov said. Six of them were taken to hospital, including three Chinese nationals.

Unverifiable photos and videos circulating on social media purported to show a large black column of smoke rising from an oil depot. Russian online retailer Wildberries said a logistics centre in Koledino near Podolsk had been evacuated as a precaution, but that operations had since resumed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed attacks on an oil depot and logistics facilities in the Moscow region. He also wrote on social media that two tankers from Russia's shadow fleet and four cargo ships had been hit, saying Ukraine was responding appropriately to every Russian attack on its towns and cities.

Russia's Defence Ministry said in the morning that 381 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted overnight over Russian territory and the Crimean Peninsula.

Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote on Telegram that more than 400 drones had flown towards the Moscow region since the evening, a large proportion of which had been shot down well before reaching the capital.
