Well, this is certainly not how the Chicago Blackhawks and/or their fans wanted to begin the Fourth of July Holiday weekend.

On Thursday afternoon, Blackhawks blogger and YouTuber Ryan McGregor, who has been covering Connor Bedard’s offseason training in Vancouver throughout the summer, reported that the star forward suffered a left shoulder injury after falling awkwardly into the boards.

Bedard exited the ice in visible discomfort, and the way in which he held his arm while skating off resembled the incident on Dec. 12 against the St. Louis Blues, when he injured his right shoulder while battling at the faceoff circle.

Less than two hours later, video footage surfaced showing Bedard’s losing his balance and crashing hard into the boards. Bedard could be heard groaning in pain as he skated off the ice. The video doesn’t look good at all.

The only silver lining here is that at least Bedard didn’t re-aggravate his right shoulder, with that injury forcing him to miss roughly four weeks during the 2025-26 regular season. The timing also could have been worse, as there’s still over two months until training camp begins in September. Regardless, this was not ideal in any manner.

Additionally, with Bedard and the Blackhawks still needing to finalize his contract extension, there are concerns now about whether this recent situation could impact negotiations.

There haven’t been any further developments in terms of the severity of Bedard’s recent injury, but hopefully, there will be a positive update after the weekend.
